Nostalgia/Shootout Event Has Great Turnout

Samoa – The Saturday Shootout and Nostalgia Race had a large turnout of race cars participating for awards and glory.  The event, sponsored by Leon’s Mufflers, brought 94 contestants to the track in six brackets of competition.

 

One of the highlights of the event was the attendance of many former racers and members who shared stories, pictures and interviews with current officers and race drivers.  A lot of interesting information was imparted and a great time was had by all.

 

In racing action the Nostalgia bracket was won Rick Lermo in his 1939 Ford with an elapsed time of 15.34 seconds at 71 mph.  Joe Scheel redlighted in the final in his 1971 Duster handing Lermo a sure victory in the class.  Joe Doyle with his 1963 Nova wagon and Cody Waddell in his 1968 Nova were the semifinalists.

 

Dale Waddell captured the Super Pro title in his 1927 Ford roadster with a time of 10.47 at 127 mph.  Dennis Frisbie finished second on his 2002 Kawasaki.  The semifinalists were Rick Ellsworth’s dragster and Louie Henninger’s 1973 Kawasaki.

 

Mike Scoggin topped the Pro bracket in his 1946 Chevy pickup running an 11.59 at 112 in the final round.  Jason Henderson was runner-up with his 1966 Mustang.  The third place drivers were Ray Rapp in his 1971 Vega and Troy Beck in his 1969 GTO.

 

The Quick Street bracket was won by Ana Toledo in her 1969 Mustang.  She ran 13.83 at 91 mph to gain the victory over Adam Moore’s 1969 Camaro.  Doyle and Glen Phillips’ 1967 Mustang were the semifinalists.

 

Mike Carr won the Street title in his 1979 Ford pickup with a time of 18.24 at 71 mph.  Jim Brodersen finished second in his 1997 Ford truck.  Brian Stone with his 1967 Firebird and John Farber with his 1972 Dart advanced to the semifinal round

 

Kara Pettit won the Junior Dragster title with a time of 8.89 over Tim Ellsworth.  Adam Smith won the Consolation bracket.
